As winter approaches, Warrington Borough Council is urging vulnerable residents to get their flu and Covid-19 vaccines.
These vaccinations are said to be the best protection against severe symptoms during the colder months.
People are advised to get vaccinated yearly to keep their protection levels high.
The flu vaccine is available to specific groups, including those aged 65 and over, individuals with certain long-term health conditions, pregnant women, and children aged two or three on or before August 31, 2024.
The main carers for older or disabled people, as well as those who live with someone with a weakened immune system, are also eligible.
School children from reception to Year 11 will primarily receive their flu vaccinations at school.
There will also be opportunities for children to be vaccinated at NHS community clinics.
For most children, the vaccine is a quick and painless nasal spray, not an injection.
Children aged two and three years can receive their vaccine at their GP surgery.
Those in the high-risk flu groups will receive an invitation for a free flu vaccine from their GP practice.
Pregnant women can arrange to have the vaccine at a local pharmacy or via their maternity care provider.
People who are not eligible for a free flu jab can request a vaccine from participating pharmacies for a small fee, depending on availability.
The Covid-19 vaccine is recommended for people at increased risk from the virus.
This includes those aged 65 and over, pregnant women, individuals aged six months to 64 years with an increased risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19 due to a health condition or treatment, those living in care homes for older adults, and frontline health or social care workers.
Some individuals may be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through a local service, such as a community pharmacy or GP surgery, or a care home if they live in one.
Councillor Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for health, wellbeing, and social care, said: "Vaccinations are our best defence against flu and COVID-19 ahead of winter.
"I encourage everyone who is eligible to come forward for their seasonal vaccines to help protect yourself and your loved ones.
"If you are eligible, please take up your free vaccine offer to get ‘winter strong’ – don’t put it off, book your appointment today and protect yourself against the risk of severe illness."
People can check their eligibility for both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines and book online.
Appointments are carried out at pharmacies and GP surgeries.
