ALL lanes have reopened but long delays remain on the motorway following emergency repairs.
Queues have been present all afternoon on the M56 eastbound outside Runcorn today, Wednesday.
Delays of approximately three hours were expected between junctions 16 for Ellesmere Port and 12 for Runcorn.
Emergency repairs were taking place due to a collapsed drainage cover, and while this is now complete and all lanes have reopened, residual delays remain.
At its peak, this caused more than 11 miles of congestion on the motorway.
