THERE are no plans for the return of the controversial low traffic neighbourhoods (LTN) in Warrington.
The LTNs in the town were scrapped after trial periods – following major opposition.
Cllr Rob Tynan, Conservative, put forward a question to council leader Cllr Hans Mundry, Labour, at the full council meeting on Monday.
He asked: “With the return of Warrington’s climate emergency forum, can Cllr Mundry confirm the council will not be forcing anymore LTNs on local communities without full and proper resident consultation and a local referendum?”
In response, Cllr Mundry said ‘yes’ – confirming the council will not be doing this – and stated that the LTNs were a ‘Conservative initiative’.
He said he has ‘not seen anything’ from the Labour Government’s manifesto or agenda which says they want to re-introduce the ‘old Conservative agenda’.
Cllr Mundry added that there is ‘no desire from any Labour Government or council to take it forward’.
