A GREAT Sankey High School student has taken on a gruelling nine-hour hike to raise money for a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience.
Amy Fance is a year 12 student at Barrowhall College who is currently fundraising for a trip to Kenya.
The trip, which is organised by Camps International, will see the teenagers deworm animals, go on a safari and help build fences.
Inspired to take part, Amy began attempting to fundraise more than £4,000 in order to secure her spot on the 2025 trip.
“This expedition is extremely important to me because I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills, experiences, teamwork and leadership skills and the opportunity to experience a new culture,” she said.
“I am looking forward to seeing the safari animals and being able to make a difference to people’s lives.
“However, I am nervous to be away from home for four weeks, but I know that in the end it will be worth it for this once in a lifetime experience.”
So far, Amy has managed to raise more than half of the money needed to pay for flights, vaccinations and travel insurance.
The pupil has been selling unwanted items on Vinted, baking and selling cakes and going to car boot sales.
As part of her efforts, the year 12 student has now taken on the gruelling Edale Skyline route, which is a 20 mile walk in the Peak District.
Amy took on the mammoth challenge last week and managed to complete it in under nine hours.
With a QR code for her GoFundMe page attached to her bag, Amy managed to raise even more money through donations from other walkers.
It seems the brutal walk hasn’t deterred Amy’s efforts, as she now plans to complete a half marathon and is also trying to get a part time job to help reach her goal.
