AFTER being hit with a severe water leak that damaged its foundations, a Warrington school has extended its closure as repairs works continue.

Meadowside Community Primary School had no choice but to close at the start of October after staff discovered a ‘significant quantity of water’ beneath the floor of the school.

A risk assessment was carried out at the time and ‘the building was deemed to be unsafe for staff and pupils’.

The Clough Avenue school arranged for alternative accommodation to ensure face-to-face teaching could continue.

In a more recent update, the school has stated that teaching at the temporary accommodation will continue as repair works are under way.

A spokesperson for Meadowside Primary said: “Contractors have been on site since the issue came to light, working to rectify the problem.

“The first task was to pump out all of the water which had accumulated beneath the floor in the building.

“This will be completed by the end of this week; we will then be able to assess the extent of the damage and start to rectify any issues.”

Due to the work and assessments that are yet to be completed, the staff and pupils are still unable to access the site, the school confirmed.

But they are expected to be allowed to return to the site next week if all goes to plan.

“If the issues are projected to take longer than a week or so to resolve; we will be arranging for mobile classrooms to be erected on site to minimise disruption,” a spokesperson added.

“We will continue to act with the urgency this situation requires and will keep all stakeholders fully informed with any updates or future planning.”
