VOLUNTEERS will help unlock family history secrets for those looking to find out more about their ancestors this weekend.
Warrington Family History Society will be on hand to help explore the history of those looking to research their ancestors.
These volunteers will be available tomorrow, Saturday, at Warrington Archives within Warrington Central Library.
From beginners who want to look into their family history but don’t know where to start, to experienced researchers who have hit a wall in their search, the Family History Help Desk will be able to help.
“People who come to the help desks have all sorted of questions, sometimes they are just curious about where they come from and what their ancestors’ lives were like,” a spokesperson said.
“Sometimes they have very specific questions, such as what their grandfather’s role was during WWI, or where their grandmother was born.
“A lot of people come to the help desks with one nagging question about their family history they just haven’t been able to answer.
“Between them, the volunteers from Warrington Family History Society have a lifetime of knowledge in the field and have probably come across every problem a researcher might meet.”
The volunteers have access to billions of electronic records on Find My Past, a British and Irish family database, and the array of historic documents in Warrington’s Archive in order to help research.
“The possibilities are endless, and Warrington Archives can help you start your journey into your family’s past,” a spokesperson said.
“The stories you uncover can help to show how your family became what it is today. Learn about the hardships and the joys, the highs and the lows of your family through time.
“Even if you are not from Warrington we have access vast collections of online records covering the whole of the UK.”
The Help Desk will be open from 10am until midday tomorrow, and those looking to go can simply drop-in on the day.
Details of an enquiry can also be sent in advance to searchroom@culturewarrington.org.
