ENQUIRIES remain ongoing into an incident which saw a Warrington high school evacuated.
Great Sankey High School closed early for the day last Thursday, October 17, and pupils were sent home due to an ‘anonymous threat’ being made.
In a message sent to parents and guardians, head teacher Gary Evans said that there was ‘no choice other than to close the school’ while Cheshire Police investigated an incident.
“I understand this is an inconvenience and I apologise, but this is in the best interests of the school community,” he added.
When asked for an update today, Thursday, Cheshire Police confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing, and that no arrests had been made.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police previously said: “On Thursday, October 17, Cheshire Police attended Great Sankey High School, Warrington, in relation to an anonymous threat that had been received.
“Following the reports, a decision has been taken by the school to evacuate as a precautionary measure.
“Enquiries remain ongoing, and there is no need for any concern in the wider community or at nearby schools in relation to this.”
A social media post on the day by the force’s Warrington Police team adds: “We are aware of a school in Warrington that has evacuated students as a precaution.
“This is following an anonymous threat it has received.
“Our officers are in attendance at that school, and there is no need for any concern in the wider community or nearby schools in relation to this.”
