WARRINGTON students journeyed to the First World War battlefields in France and Belgium on a trip of learning and reflection.
A group of students from Padgate Academy embarked on the ‘memorable journey’ recently, exploring key sites including Ypres, Passchendaele and Tyne Cot cemetery.
The tours of cemeteries, trenches, and memorials allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the immense sacrifices made during the Great War of 1914 to 1918.
Many pupils reflected on the emotional impact of seeing the rows of gravestones and the silence of once war-torn landscapes.
"I never realised the scale of the war until I saw it for myself," said one student, adding that it gave a new appreciation for the events they had learned about in the classroom.
Mrs Lloyd, the visit organiser, praised the positive attitude of the students.
"Their respect and willingness to engage in discussions about the war's significance really stood out. They've gained a perspective that goes beyond the classroom."
The trip not only enriched the students' knowledge of history but also fostered a greater sense of empathy and reflection on the lasting effects of conflict.
Many students expressed how the visit helped them to better understand the importance of peace and remembrance.
