A WARRINGTON resident has grown an accidental pumpkin patch in her back garden in Orford.
Rebecca Ravenscroft sadly lost her dad John Stroker in February of this year.
At his funeral, Rebecca handed out seeds in a bag with a picture of John on for people to plant in his memory.
The bags contained a mixture of bee friendly seeds, including poppies.
She had some left over that looked like sunflower seeds, so she planted them in her garden in the hope of repotting them for her young nieces and nephews.
After a few weeks of planting them, Rebecca noticed the leaves were quite large.
She used her plant app to identify what was growing and it revealed that they were field pumpkins.
And since this, plenty of pumpkins started growing in Rebecca’s garden.
Rebecca has shared the story to help people to see the ‘lighter side of life’.
She said: “I’d like to think my dad is having a big laugh at me and as I am an October baby he knew I loved Halloween.
“It is so strange as it should have been poppies and things like that but also that is just my dad’s humour too, he would have been laughing and telling everyone.”
Bizarrely, the pumpkins only grew at Rebecca’s home, everyone else just ended up with the bee friendly flowers.
She has two big one so far, although she did have to rescue one as her dog Elvis decided he liked raw pumpkin.
