LARGE discarded items including a fridge dumped on a residential street have sat there uncollected for months despite a number of fly-tipping complaints being made.

Frustrated resident Beverley Stowell has made several complaints to the council of the growing issue of fly-tipping in her local area of Old Hall.

And more than four months on from initially reporting the issue, nothing has still been done.

She spoke to the Warrington Guardian about when she first noticed items being dumped on a patch of grass near to her home between Old Hall Road and Cromwell Avenue.

“It started off with the bed being dumped on the second week of June. I reported that and nothing happened.

The retired nurse expressed her shock at the lack of action taken after she reported the fly-tipping incidents to the council.

She continued: “The woman I spoke to on the phone when I reported the fridge said they have a big problem with fly-tipping in Warrington.

“I have only just moved here, I previously lived in Bury, but I am quite disappointed that they have taken no action.”

Meanwhile Warrington Borough Council has looked into the reports made and highlighted that the land in question is owned by Your Housing Group – who are responsible for addressing the fly-tipping issue.

After the larger items of a bed and fridge were left at the spot, Beverley noted that this encouraged further items to be discarded in the same place.

A council spokesperson addressed the issue stating: “We are aware of fly-tipping on the land between Old Hall Road and Cromwell Avenue.

“We have been in contact with the landowner, Your Housing Group, and have asked them to clear the waste from the area, as they are responsible for any waste on the land.”

Referring to the affects the act has on the environment, they continued: “Fly-tipping has a negative impact on the environment and the local community. We will always take action against those responsible for fly-tipping where we have evidence to do so.

“Our environmental crime team work with partner agencies to target fly-tipping hotspots, and review reports of fly-tipping incidents so waste can be collected, and offenders can be pursued.

“Residents are encouraged to report fly-tipping including any information to help identify who might be responsible. You can do this by visiting warrington.gov.uk/fly-tipping.”
