WALKS through a Warrington park have inspired the storyline of an ‘exciting’ new children’s book.
Parents Jacob and Danielle Lovatt have announced the exciting release of their first book, aimed at young children, and featuring characters that are largely based around the wildlife living among the shrubbery of their local park in Woolston.
The pair began writing the story of Simon’s Breakfast Adventure off the back of a new year’s resolution.
And dad Jacob described the ‘amazing’ feeling of seeing the story’s characters ‘come to life’ as illustrators worked on the pages for the book.
Speaking on their inspiration for the book, the 36-year-old said: “We have always spent lots of time reading with our two children.
“Some of these stories had left us feeling a little underwhelmed and we often used to think that we could create something fun, engaging and exciting to read to them instead.
“So, I said to Danielle that I was going to try and write a story of my own as a new year's resolution challenge.
“Each day on my lunch break, I would go for a walk on Woolston Park, so I suppose that's where the original concept began. I would try to add little bits to the story whenever I walked through the park, hence the reason why some of the animals that I'd seen have ended up as the characters in the book.”
The story follows the adventures of Simon the Stickleback who is in search of something ‘tasty’ for breakfast, but he soon realises he may also be the ideal snack for bigger creatures along the stream.
Revealing what is in store for readers, Jacob added: “The story is fun and exciting, and the characters can be spotted in many parks across the country.
“It offers interaction, repetition, alliteration and rhyming which allows children to improve their learning and development.
“The book is also educational as it allows the opportunity for the adult to explain the reality of nature to the child - we feel that it is the ideal length for a bedtime story.”
Jacob reflected on the difficult challenge of trying to raise their two-year-old son Austin and four-year-old daughter Mischa while working on the book but added that it was ‘worth the time and effort as we have created something that our children will have forever’.
Simon’s Breakfast Adventure was published using Amazon’s self-publishing platform KDP and is currently exclusively available to purchase through Amazon.
Danielle explained that if the book is successful, they will be able to self-publish it and distribute it through other platforms and distributors.
“We also have the option of taking the book to local Maker's Markets, this is something we are currently looking at. Hopefully we may be able to get a stall at the Warrington Maker's Market soon enough,” she added.
