POLICE have sadly confirmed that a person has died on the railway line in Warrington.
Emergency services rushed to Birchwood railway station shortly after 6am this morning, Monday.
This followed reports of a casualty on the tracks, with all trains cancelled between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road.
Now, British Transport Police has confirmed that a person has died on the tracks, with the incident not being treated as suspicious.
A BTP spokesman said: “We were called to Birchwood station at around 6.10am this morning, Monday, October 21, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended along with paramedics, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Rail passengers are urged to find alternative routes, or to find alternative means of transport if possible.
In a statement, Network Rail said: “There are no trains running through Warrington Central between Liverpool and Manchester.
“This is due to the emergency services attending an incident.
“We are sorry for any disruption to journeys this morning.”
Northern said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway, between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central, the line is blocked.
“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.”
