A study has revealed that Warrington ranks second in the UK for accessible polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) healthcare.
The town scored 82.87 out of 100, with 18 fertility clinics, 21 GP surgeries, and five registered endocrinologists accessible to patients.
The study, by PCOS supplement provider Fertility Family, assessed the availability of fertility clinics, endocrinologists, and GP surgeries.
Impressively, Warrington has 18 fertility clinics within a 25-mile radius, translating to 11 clinics per 100,000 residents.
This earned Warrington the second highest clinic per capita score of 24.54, narrowly beaten by Crawley.
The town also scored 18.06 out of 25 for access to registered endocrinologists.
Despite this, insights from Fertility Family’s 2023 PCOS Awareness Survey show that more than half (54 per cent) of PCOS patients feel misunderstood by healthcare professionals.
One in 10 people waited over five years for treatment, while seven per cent waited more than 10 years.
Dr Gill Lockwood, consultant at Fertility Family, said: "If you think you may have PCOS, even if your symptoms are quite mild, it is important to speak to your GP.
"Many disorders can mimic PCOS symptoms such as thyroid disease and overproduction of the prolactin hormone so it is important to get the right diagnosis."
