A NUMBER of flood warnings and alerts remain in place in Warrington today, Thursday.
The Environment Agency has issued a series of warnings regarding flooding in the town.
It follows torrential downpours throughout the most part of yesterday, Wednesday, as well as overnight, with a yellow weather warning for heavy rain previously being issued.
At present, there are two red flood warnings in force. These are more serious than a flood alert and state ‘flooding is expected - act now’.
They cover areas surrounding Dallam Brook, particularly near Dallam playing fields and a section of Europa Boulevard in Gemini.
The warnings particularly mention Europa Boulevard, Gemini Industrial Park, Fairbourne Close, Chepstow Close, Colwyn Close, Higham Avenue, Tavlin Avenue, Hodgkinson Avenue, Marshall Avenue, Hawleys Lane and Mullen Close.
They state: “River levels remain high, and flooding of roads and low-lying land is still possible today, Thursday
“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near Sankey Brook, with low-lying land and roads expected to be most affected.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. This message will be updated this afternoon by 5pm, or as the situation changes.”
Two amber flood warnings meanwhile are also in place, and these state that ‘flooding is possible – be prepared’.
These cover areas of Burtonwood, Callands, Dallam, Longford, Orford, The Twiggeries, Cardinal Newman High School, Howley, Victoria Park, Latchford, Centre Park, Sankey Bridges, Penketh and Great Sankey.
The Sankey Brook alert states: “River levels remain high, and flooding of roads and low-lying land is still possible today, Thursday.
“Flooding may affect locations near Sankey Brook and tributaries, with low-lying land and roads expected to be most affected.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. This message will be updated this afternoon by 5pm, or as the situation changes.”
The River Mersey alert states: “This flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast this afternoon, Thursday.
“Flooding is possible at low-lying lands and roads from 1pm. We currently anticipate the flood alert level to be met during the next high tide this evening.
“Our incident rooms are on standby, and we are closely monitoring the situation.
“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near watercourses, and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
