TRAIN commuters are being warned of delays this morning, Thursday, due to flooding.

Northern, TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast are all reporting reduced speed on the line through the town.

It follows torrential rain through the most part of yesterday, Wednesday, which continued through the night.

TransPennine Express said: “Due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street, trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines.

“Train services running to and from these stations may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted. Disruption is expected until 11am.

“Due to flooding on the railway in the Warrington area, TransPennine Express services will be delayed or diverted.

“Network Rail is working to fix this issue, so that services can return to normal as quickly as possible.

“Customers may travel between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly or Victoria on Northern services. TransPennine Express tickets will be accepted on board.

“Customers may also travel on East Midlands Railway Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly. TransPennine Express tickets will be accepted on board.”

Northern said: “Due to heavy rain flooding the railway at Warrington West, trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines.

“Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes. Disruption is expected until 1pm.

“Network Rail engineers have been on site and have rectified the issue.

“Customers travelling between Liverpool Lime Street to and from Manchester stations can alternatively use other Northern services that call at stations via Earlestown, as these services are not affected.

“Northern tickets can be used at no additional cost on board TransPennine Express and East Midlands Trains services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester stations in both directions until 10am.

“For customers on station platforms, please listen for announcements or consult customer information screens for up-to-date train running information.”

In a statement, Avanti West Coast said: “Due to flooding between Crewe and Runcorn, trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines towards Runcorn.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 25 minutes. Disruption is expected until midday.

“We are really sorry if this affects you and your journey today. If your journey is delayed 15 minutes or more, you can claim compensation at delayrepay.avantiwestcoast.co.uk

“If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.

“If you no longer wish to travel because your train's delayed or cancelled, you can request a full refund from where you bought your ticket.”
