A BAREFOOT firewalk is set to challenge animal lovers while raising funds for cats in need.
The event, hosted by Cats Protection Warrington Cat Centre, will take place on Friday, October 25 at 6pm at their site on Elizabeth Drive in Padgate.
Participants will face their fears by walking barefoot across burning hot coals to support cats.
Among those taking part is the centre's deputy manager, Emma Harris, who is familiar with how much the funds raised will benefit the cats.
Ms Harris said: "This is the first time I’ve taken part in a firewalk and I’m equal parts scared and excited.
"The funds raised will make such a difference as we’ve noticed that owners have often been really struggling before bringing cats into our care and many need significant amounts of vet treatment to get them into their best health before they can be homed.
"As a charity, we raise all the money needed for cats’ care directly so every penny raised really does help."
The outdoor challenge will be led by instructor Karen Sterling from BLAZE Firewalking, an organisation that has been safely guiding people across the fire pit for over 30 years.
Spaces are still available for anyone wishing to participate.
People can choose to pay a £25 fee and pledge to raise £120 in sponsorship, or pay £55 without a fundraising commitment.
Family, friends, and supporters are welcome to cheer on the brave participants.
One of the cats who will benefit from the event is a one-year-old long-haired tabby named Meleys.
She was brought to the centre after her owner developed an allergy to cats.
Meleys is known for her sweet, affectionate, and playful nature, making her an ideal match for a variety of cat lovers.
She does have some inflammation under her tongue, which does not cause her any problems, but her new owners will need to monitor it and ensure she continues to eat and groom herself comfortably.
The centre staff will discuss the condition with anyone interested in adopting Meleys.
Like all Cats Protection cats, Meleys will arrive at her new home fully vet-checked, neutered, up-to-date with her vaccines and parasite treatments, and with four weeks of free pet insurance available to her new owners.
