UPGRADES have been outlined to ‘enhance the customer experience’ at a Warrington railway station.

Plans have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council seeking listed building consent for the installation of new customer information screens.

If permission is granted, these will be fitted at Glazebrook railway station, on Glazebrook Lane.

Applicant Sella Controls explained that while the screens will not be attached to the Grade II-listed building, listed building permission is still required.

The upgrades are part of the Northern Trains CIS Replacement Programme

Two new screens would be located on platforms one and two, to give additional information about train arrival times.

Planning documents state: “The proposal is to install new customer information screens inside the existing waiting shelters.

“They will replace an existing blank panel within the shelter, to provide passengers knowledge of train arrival times.

“Existing cable routes will be used where available, with small extensions to be installed on the platforms away from the listed building.

“This will enhance the passenger experience at the station without impacting the appearance of the listed building, as the screens will be located inside the existing platform waiting shelters.”

Documents add: “The information screens proposed have been chosen for the reason they will give greater information to passengers, but will not have a major impact on the station and surrounding areas.

“The screens will be installed inside existing waiting shelters, which are away from the listed building further down the platforms.

“This will not negatively impact the listed building and will only enhance passenger experience at the station.”
