OVER the past few weeks in Looking Back we have been analysing the history of some of Warrington's favourite pubs.
This week, we take a look at what's in a name.
Some landlords jhave opted to let the general public decide on their pub's moniker.
In a Warrington Guardian competition in 1979, readers were invited to choose a name for a new pub in Lovely Lane.
The winner, Christine Morrall, chose the name The Mad Hatter after the Alice In Wonderland character created by Warrington author Lewis Carroll. It is now known as The Hatter.
When Tetley Walker opened a new pub in Glover Road in Birchwood in 1980, it arranged a similar contest, which was won by Annie Holmes.
She settled on the Turf and Feather because the pub was built on the land of an old farm of the same name.
