A FLOOD alert has been issued for Warrington after heavy rain has battered the town.

The Environment Agency has issued the alert for the Mersey Estuary in the town, with residents being urged to ‘be prepared’.

It has been issued due to the high tide forecast during the early hours of tomorrow morning, October.

Areas covered by the alert include Fiddlers Ferry, Eastford Road, Arpley Bridge, Knutsford Road, and Howley.

It is also possible that river levels may affect Arpley Road under the railway bridge.

The alert will be in place from 11.30pm tonight, Wednesday, with the Environment Agency warning that flooding is possible at low lying lands and roads from this time.

A spokesperson for the agency said: “We currently anticipate the Flood Alert level to be met during the next high tide tomorrow afternoon, October 17.

“Our incident rooms are on standby, and we are closely monitoring the situation.

“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
