A WARRINGTON primary school has been forced to close for the day and cancel its Harvest Festival due to a major power cut and water loss in the area.

The Winwick area has been experiencing a power cut which was first reported to Scottish Power at around 7am this morning, Wednesday.

Along with an issue of water loss which United Utilities has confirmed it is currently investigating.

Many homes are being affected as well as traffic light signals and Winwick CE Primary school too.

In an announcement on its website, Winwick Primary stated that the school is currently closed due to the power cut and loss of water affecting the area and apologised to parents for the inconvenience.

The planned Harvest Festival has sadly been called off, it confirmed, with a future date for it to go ahead not yet stated.

A spokesperson for the school said: "We will update you throughout the day regarding opening the school tomorrow.

"Teaching Staff will set online learning through google classroom, reading plus, reading eggs,Century and Sumdog to give students some activities today.

"We appreciate some of you will not have Wi-Fi today so please do not worry to complete the online learning if not possible.

"Please share this information on WhatsApp groups if they have not seen the ping.
Thank you for your support and understanding with this matter, we will update you as soon as we can."

Meanwhile Scottish Power has stated that its engineers are currently working to fix the power issue, estimating that it should be restored by 10am.

United Utilities has also raised an issue with water loss in the WA2 area which it is 'investigating' currently.

A spokesperson has said: "We're investigating a problem in your area, which may mean you have no water, or low water pressure.

"We're sorry for the inconvenience, we’re working as quickly as we can to get your taps flowing again."
