PERMISSION is now formally being sought to build 153 new homes as part of the Eagles Green development.
As previously reported by the Warrington Guardian, homebuilder Anwyl Homes has acquired a 12.6-acre parcel of land at Omega which was formerly part of RAF Burtonwood airbase.
After closing in 1991, the airbase site was demolished and has undergone significant redevelopment, including housing and warehousing.
The land secured by Anwyl, which is marketed as Omega South phase five, already benefits from outline planning permission.
The developer stated that a reserved matters application was set to be submitted to Warrington Borough Council.
Now, the council has officially received this application, which seeks permission for the appearance, landscaping, layout, infrastructure and scale of the site.
The site, off Burtonwood Road and Fortress Boulevard, has been named Eagles Green in a nod to the former RAF Burtonwood airbase motto ‘ut aquilae volent’ – Latin for 'that eagles may fly'.
Planning documents state: “The proposals aim to optimise the use of land in a manner that is appropriate to the site’s character and setting, while respecting the neighbouring properties.
“The layout and urban form have been designed to support crime prevention and community safety, with development clearly overlooking public spaces and streets.
“The landscape design has been carefully crafted to complement the setting of the site, with green spaces thoughtfully integrated into the overall structure and layout of the residential areas.
“This statement demonstrates that the proposed development is acceptable in design terms and aligns with principles of sustainable development, in accordance with national and local planning guidance.
Of the 153 new homes, 115 properties will be for private sale and 38 will be classed as affordable homes.
These will be a mix of starter homes, shared ownership properties and those available for affordable rent, with three, four and five-bedroom designs proposed, alongside two and three-bedroom affordable homes.
If reserved matters approval is granted, Anwyl expects to start work in spring 2025, with the first homes due to be released for sale in autumn of that year.
