A WARRINGTON primary school teacher recently competed in the England women’s team in the first ever Women’s Box Lacrosse Championships.

Lucy Ford, 29, made the staff and students at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School extremely ‘proud’ as she represented the country at the international event.

The year three class teacher attended the World Box Lacrosse Championships held in New York last month (September).

Speaking with the Warrington Guardian, she highlighted what a major step this was for women’s lacrosse, as this is the first year that women’s teams have been invited to compete in the event.

The championships took place on September 20 to 29 and the England Women’s team finished with a one-goal win over Germany – the final score being 14-13.

“We sealed fifth place in the championships and secured the position of the highest-ranked European team at the event,” Lucy added.

She continued: “To have represented Team England as a player and an assistant captain at the first ever Women’s Box Lacrosse Championships has been an absolute honour.

“Our team and coaching staff worked incredibly hard in the lead-up to the event and I’m extremely proud of the outstanding female athletes that I had the privilege of competing alongside at this event.
