AFTER years of building success, a popular hair salon has outgrown its former premises despite setbacks during the pandemic and has opened a brand new and bigger shop in Warrington.

Samuel Peter Hairdressing has been trading in Culcheth for the last 13 years and within that time has built up a strong and ‘loyal’ customer base.

The business’s most recent owner, who took over the salon in February 2020, even stated that before she worked at the salon, she would make the journey down from her home in Manchester to get her hair done by its talented stylists every few months.

Salon owner Melissa Hay has spoken of the ‘unique’ atmosphere at the salon making it stand out above the rest.

“This is down to the perfect hybrid of customers that are like friends to us, also the loyal staff.

“Each who bring a different personality and who are extremely talented in hairdressing. So much so, I used to drive to Culcheth, from Manchester, for my own hair coloured before I owned the salon.”

The salon has relocated, due to its need for a larger premises, to a main street in Culcheth where it now sits slap bang in the ‘heart of the village’. This new shop is based on Lodge Drive.

Recalling the turbulent road which has led to this point, Melissa continued: “As I took on the business in February 2020 full of hope and excitement, within six weeks we were locked down, with no idea what was going to unfold.

“However, the next two years were extremely scary given that I had borrowed to buy the business and had staff relying on the business for their livelihoods.

“As a small business, nine months of closures and further restrictions, with outgoings mounting, it’s hard to imagine being able to build back up.

“That being said, with the formula I mentioned above, the hard work has paid off and we have outgrown our salon.”

The owner stated that at the right time for the business a desirable unit became available, and she decided to ‘take the plunge’ and move premises.

Detailing her vision for this new chapter for Samuel Peter Hairdressing, she added: “I wanted to create a salon that feels like a place to relax, socialise, almost a hub of the village.

“We have created a coffee/ bar, we have room upstairs to teach courses, grow, or venture into other aspects.

“As we grow, I hope to employ more apprentices, look to grow the team, plan more social events and incorporate local business.”

This paired with the friendly atmosphere and the additional convenience of on-site parking is a recipe for success, she claims.

Customers can also choose from a variety of different stylists varying from junior level up to top level trained in hairdressing for more than 20 years – this including owner Melissa and another senior stylist Sally.

The salon held a launch party last month to welcome its clients into the fresh new premises, where they enjoyed drinks and live music for the evening.

A final word from Melissa on the grand opening of the hairdressers, she said: “As nervous as I am to borrow again to invest, I feel we need this extra space to grow. I feel very thankful to my staff and the loyalty of our wonderful customers.”
