A DEVELOPER has praised the completion of a huge apartment block in the town centre as a ‘pillar of redevelopment’.

Edmond de Rothschild real estate investment management firm says work on The Steelworks is now complete.

The £56million apartment complex, which sits on Winwick Street and John Street next to Warrington Central railway station, has been under construction since August 2019.

It was heavily delayed when a contractor went into administration back in 2021, but after work stalled, the scheme is now complete.

The eight-storey block was set to provide 362 homes and a 796-space car park on the site, but permission was granted to reduce the number of flats to 359 in August, to facilitate a resident-only gym and lounge area.

The apartments for rent are arranged around two large, landscaped courtyards, with the block also featuring a sky lounge, work-from-home space and a private hire kitchen and dining area.

The scheme forms part of the wider masterplan for the regeneration of the station area, with a £190million regeneration project set to revitalise the 90-acre site as a whole.

The exterior of the building is clad in primrose yellow, in a nod to Warrington Wolves and referencing the block’s close proximity to Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Edmond de Rothschild says the development presents a midmarket offering, achieving rents that are affordable and delivering a positive impact by regenerating a brownfield, urban site.

A firm spokesman said: “The asset delivers high-quality residential stock in one of our preferred regeneration areas across the UK, at rents that are affordable locally.

“The Steelworks is viewed as a pillar in the redevelopment of Station Quarter in Warrington.

“A combination of location and provision of amenities fit for the market has already resulted in very strong demand.

“This is testimony to our strategy of delivering new build high-quality rental accommodation in regional markets offering a yield advantage.”
