AN exciting new weekly programme aiming to engage young children in fun term-time activities every Saturday has been launched at a Warrington high school.
Padgate Academy has started its ‘enrichment programme’ for year four, five and six pupils in the area looking for a fun way to spend their Saturday mornings.
It attracts over 20 participants a week, with children being joined by their parents for the sessions.
Katie Mills, who runs the sessions said: ‘The aim of the Saturday Enrichment sessions is to give younger children the opportunity to experience a range of fun, hands-on activities that foster creativity, teamwork, and physical well-being.
“From sports and dance to arts and crafts, the variety on offer ensures there is something for every child to enjoy.
“Whether they’re learning new dance moves, crafting their own masterpieces, or building confidence through team sports, pupils are encouraged to explore new skills in a fun and supportive environment.”
The success of the Saturday Enrichment program is ‘evident’ not only in the numbers of children attending but also in the positive feedback from participants themselves.
Amelia, 10, expressed how the sessions have been a great way to ‘meet new people’ and ‘try new things’. “I have also played sports I did not like but now I do,” she added.
And one parent, David Morley, echoed their delight with the program, saying: “Having attended Padgate superstars for a while now, my daughter feels comfortable with the building, the staff, and the ability to meet new people.
“She loves attending the sessions, and the variety of activities that take place there.”
The school hopes that the program will continue to grow, with plans to introduce even more activities as interest increases.
Teachers involved with the sessions have highlighted the benefits of the program for the children, not just in terms of physical fitness and creativity but also in boosting self-esteem.
Padgate Academy’s principal, Adam McMillan, also commented on the sessions, saying: “A key focus of the program is to create a sense of community and inclusion.
“Katie and the team work hard to ensure that each child feels welcome and valued. Many of the activities are designed to promote social skills, encouraging pupils to make new friends and work collaboratively.”
As well as being a valuable resource for the children, the Saturday Enrichment program also offers parents/carers a welcome opportunity for a few hours of free time while knowing their children are in a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment.
The program runs every Saturday from 9am to 12pm, and spaces are still available for pupils in Years 4, 5, and 6. Families interested in registering their child or learning more about the range of activities on offer can contact the school directly.
