A 23-YEAR-OLD man who was in ‘desperate need’ of a kidney donor has now undergone lifechanging surgery.

Luke Foster said he is feeling better than ever with his new kidney and has described the situation as a ‘miracle’.

Luke was born with one kidney – a dysplastic kidney, meaning ‘it will never be fully functional and healthy’.

From just three months old, Luke has been in and out of hospital where he has undergone multiple tests and scans.

Luke, who is from Lowton, had his first transplant when he was 13 after his kidney function dropped to nine per cent.

After this, Luke felt like he had another chance at life and he was able to get back to doing the things that he enjoyed.

But at 22 years old, Luke was told he would need another transplant due to the deterioration of his kidney.

He began his dialysis journey in October 2023. The treatment consists of four-hour blocks three days a week, leaving Luke feeling exhausted.

Since November last year, Luke was given various dates for a transplant which were all unable to go ahead for various reasons.

And in September, he was told the news that he had to find himself a kidney donor which led to him appealing for help.

In what has been described as a ‘miracle’, Luke found a donor and he is now nearly a month post-surgery.

He says he is feeling better than ever with a new kidney.

Luke said: “I can’t express how thankful I am for the overwhelming support, prayers, and kindness I’ve received.

“A miracle truly happened, and I am forever grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.

“Here’s to healing, hope, and new beginnings.”
