A MAIN road through Warrington is currently closed this afternoon, Thursday.

The A574 Birchwood Way is currently blocked heading eastbound, with queueing traffic reported.

This is due to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

The road is blocked between the B5210 Woolston Grange Avenue and Oakwood Gate.

Two fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood fire stations are in attendance, as are officers from Cheshire Police and paramedics from North West Ambulance Service.

Firefighters attended at around 3.30pm following reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

A full road closure was in place while firefighters worked with paramedics to free a casualty from a car.

A full roof removal has taken place to free the casualty, who is now in the care of paramedics, with firefighters then ensuring the vehicles involved are in a safe state.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 2.50pm, police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Birchwood Way.

“The collision involves a blue Honda Jazz and a white Ford Transit.

“The road is currently closed.”

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and to find an alternative route if possible.
