SCALED-down plans to transform the vacant Dawsons Music building into apartments and bedsits have been withdrawn.

The application, which was submitted to Warrington Borough Council in April, outlines the intended internal alterations to the building on Sankey Street to create nine new homes.

Previously, an application to create 10 apartments and bedsits inside the building but was refused.

In refusing the plans, the council said: “The conversion of a class E premises to apartments does not fall within the permitted development.

“This by reason that it has not been demonstrated that apartments five and six would receive an adequate level of natural light to habitable rooms.”

The plan was altered, and a floorplan submitted in April showed that three bedsits and six apartments would instead be inside the building if approved.

The building, which was formerly Dawsons Music, has been vacant since 2019 and requires approval from Warrington Borough Council to change its use before it can be used for residencies.

A noise impact assessment was carried out in June, and internal sound insulation advice was submitted as part of the application.

However, the plans were officially withdrawn yesterday, Wednesday, by the applicant.
