A CHINESE takeaway in Howley has been hit with a shocking one-star food hygiene rating after receiving the same last year.
Star Moon, on Wellington Street, was visited by inspectors from the Food Standards Agency on August 28.
The ratings are issued by the Food Standards Agency and are publicly available online.
Ratings range from five, very good, to zero, requires urgent improvement.
The Food Standards Agency does not disclose the full reasonings behind the ratings but does reveal general areas requiring improvement.
The business in Howley, which sells fish and chips and Chinese food, received a one-star rating and was noted to need ‘major improvement’.
The management of food safety, including the systems in place to ensure food is safe to eat, was found to be generally satisfactory.
However, the hygienic handling of food including preparation and cooking was found to require improvement.
Finally, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building was found to require ‘major improvement’.
This is not the first time that the takeaway has been given a one-star rating from the Food Standards Agency, as it received the same low rating in August 2023.
The rating is available to view on the Food Standards Agency website.
