I regularly interview applicants for roles both in Warrington Youth Zone and other organisations across the country and often when asked a question around change and change management, respondents state, ‘they are agents of change,’ or they ‘embrace change’.
At Warrington Youth Zone we are in a very changing environment with lots of activities, events and opportunities happening on a daily basis.
It takes a level of energy and resilience to remain in a strong position during times of change. We are currently having a significant number of changes at our board with some new members joining and others leaving the board.
This provides a space to celebrate progress, and the achievements made over the last period, whilst also focusing on the future priorities.
I have been talking to a lot of our members as they have been preparing for returning to school, college or a work placement, many of whom have been starting secondary school, college or university.
I am always impressed by the level of confidence and enthusiasm with which many young people approach these periods of change.
Whilst the return to school or college does not always run smoothly for all young people, the process of learning to adapt and adjust are critical skills which support young people throughout their lives.
At Warrington Youth Zone the majority of our work with children and young people is focused on boosting confidence and self-esteem and encouraging them to become more resilient to the challenges they will be presented with throughout their lives.
Handling change and dealing with the curve balls that can be thrown at us all is key to the emotional and personal development of young people.
We concentrate on strategies which allow them to develop the ability to stop and review their options when presented with changes and challenges.
This is undertaken through team tasks, scenarios, personal development programmes including the National Citizen Service (NCS), mentoring and one to one session and accessing the broad array of activities available throughout the Youth Zone.
