A NUMBER of warnings and alerts have been issued across Warrington.

It comes as river and brook levels across the town rise following a prolonged period of rain over the past 48 hours.

A series of amber flood alerts have been issued in Warrington, while two more serious red flood warnings have also been issued.

The alerts state that flooding is possible, and urge people in those areas to be prepared, while the warnings state that flooding is expected, with residents told to take action.

Starting with the warnings, these are in place along Dallam Brook and Sankey Brook, covering Dallam Playing Fields and land further north around Europa Boulevard and Cromwell Avenue.

The flood alerts meanwhile cover areas of Orford, Dallam, Burtonwood, Old Hall, Great Sankey, Sankey Bridges, Penketh, Warburton and Heatley.

The flood warnings read: “Rising and high river levels are expected to cause flooding.

“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near Sankey Brook, with low-lying land and roads expected to be most affected.

“Our incident rooms are open, and we are closely monitoring the situation and rainfall and river levels.

“Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.

“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near watercourses. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Do not put yourself or others at risk.”

Moreover, the flood alerts read: “Rising river may lead to flooding.

“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Mersey, Sankey Brook and River Bollin, with low-lying land and roads expected to be most affected.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, and rainfall and river levels.

“Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”
