AN abusive man has been banned from shopping at Spar following his criminal actions.

Liam Brandwood made threats to smash windows at one of the convenience store chain’s Warrington locations.

The 35-year-old was subsequently charged with threatening to damage property and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke violence.

He admitted both charges at an earlier hearing, and he appeared back before Warrington Magistrates’ Court recently to be sentenced.

Sarah McInerney, representing the prosecution, spoke of how the first incident occurred on June 3 this year.

The defendant made threats that he would smash the windows of the Spar store on Harrier Road in Padgate.

He admitted that he intended to cause a fear of the threat being carried out by doing so.

Two days later, on June 5, Brandwood then used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a man with intent to cause him to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against him.

After hearing the facts of the case, magistrates sentenced the defendant, of Handley Drive in Padgate, to a 12-month community order, including 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

He was also told he must pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85 and surcharge of £114, with an application approved for the funds to be deducted from his benefits.

In addition, a restraining order was approved prohibiting him from contacting the victim or entering the Padgate Spar store, both for the next two years.
