A WARRINGTON man stole thousands of pounds worth of goods from his employer.

Michael Troy has been ordered to pay more than £4,000 after admitting to one charge of theft.

Prosecutor Sarah McInerney explained how the 29-year-old signed out six tyres from his employer, Truckforce UK.

He had been assigned to take the tires to Scania in Widnes but didn’t complete his job, instead driving to another address where the tires were removed from the vehicle.

Troy, who gave his address as Chepstow Close in Westbrook, appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Wednesday (September 25) for sentencing.

Not legally represented, he told the magistrates that he feared a custodial could result in him losing his home and family.

He added that since committing the offence, he started a new full time job.

Magistrates said they were ‘very concerned’ by his actions, which they viewed as being premediated.

However, when taking into account his lack of previous similar convictions, the magistrates opted to hand Troy a 12-month community order, as part of which he will have to complete a number of rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Troy must also pay his former employers compensation of £3,384 alongside a fine of £846.

Court costs and a surcharge takes his total up to £4,429, which Troy’s father offered to pay in full.

“These are huge amounts, based on the value of the items you took,” the magistrates said.

“You are a very lucky man, with a very generous father.

“Don’t let him down, make sure he gets his money back.”
