A POPULAR family-run bakery in Warrington has announced the shock closure of one of its sites.

Sextons Village Bakery started in 1969 and has gone on to see success across two sites in Warrington.

One of the owners, Phil Sexton, is the fifth generation in the family to work in the bakery trade, starting with his great great grandmother in the early 18th century.

The bakery has proved popular with residents near the Lymm and Penketh locations, and offers a range of products.

However, the shop in Penketh, on Honiton Way, will now be closing as Phil is set to retire.

“For the past 53 years, our family has had the privilege of being part of the Penketh community, and what a joy it has been,” said Phil.

“However, having reached the age of 66, and enjoying a couple of years in semi-retirement, I have decided to retire.

“Although my younger wife Sara will continue to run the bakery in Lymm, she has decided it would be too much to continue in its present format.”

Sara will continue to run the branch in Lymm, but the couple have decided to sell the site in Penketh in order to downsize the business.

“Our Penketh branch is being sold as a going concern, and in the meantime our wonderful team will continue to serve you there six days a week, and from our Lymm site seven days a week,” said Phil.

“It’s bittersweet to close this chapter and we will be continuing with all our full range of products from our bakery and retail shop in Lymm.

“We are profoundly grateful to our customers who have supported our Penketh branch over the past five decades, and we extend a heartfelt thank you for being part of this journey with us.

“We would like to assure our customers we will try to find a buyer who will continue to supply and support Penketh, Great Sankey and the surrounding area in the way we have for five decades.”
