CONCERNS have been raised over noise ‘emitted’ at the recent Creamfields festival – but its ‘positive contribution to employment and enjoyment’ has also been recognised.

A motion – proposed by Liberal Democrat Cllr Sharon Harris, and seconded by Liberal Democrat Cllr Laura Booth – was passed at Warrington's full council meeting on Monday.

It follows complaints from residents that this year's festival was noisier than ever.

The motion said the council: “Expresses sympathy for all those affected across the whole of Warrington by the noise emitted by the Creamfields music festival over the August 2024 bank holiday weekend.

“Understands the positive contribution to employment and enjoyment that the festival brings to the Warrington and Halton area and wishes to support that, whilst managing the negative impact which currently accompanies this initiative.

“Condemns the illegal activities that also take place at the festival and recognises the good work undertaken by the police and festival management company. Regrets the lack of consultation with local residents.

“Wishes to work with Halton Borough Council to try to ameliorate these issues, whilst supporting the continuation of the festival.”

As part of the motion, the council ‘resolved’ to hold cross-party discussions of councillors and officers with Halton Borough Council with regard to the planning and licensing of the Creamfields music festival for future years, and to ‘offer appropriate support’ to Halton Borough Council in considering ways in which the ‘impact of noise levels and the overnight festival activities can be modified to reduce the impact on households in both boroughs’.
