A 20MPH speed limit will be introduced on a major Warrington road ahead of an 18-month construction plan.

As previously reported in the Warrington Guardian, an extra lane is being added to Winwick Road to create a bus lane.

The work will take 18 months.

And to allow it to take place safely, a 20mph speed limit will be introduced on the stretch from Long Lane near Warrington and Vale Royal College to Pinners Brow roundabout near the town centre.

The cut will also be in place on Long Lane to its junction with Fisher Avenue.

The limit will be in place from September 30 as and when signed.

The move is part of the council's continuing drive to encourage bus use.

The number of existing lanes for cars would not change, with a new carriageway to be built and existing road space remodelled, meaning that motorists would not lose any lanes of traffic, and car journey times would remain approximately as they are now, according to the council.
