WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Warrington Guardian Camera Club group.
This week, we’re talking to Siobhan Carr, who has lived in Croft for 25 years.
She has always loved taking photographs, since she was a child, and enjoyed making holiday albums and photographic collections of special occasions.

When and why did you take up photography?
I have always loved taking photographs. As a child, I had 110 cartridge cameras and then progressed on to 35mm cameras. I would eagerly await the collection of my prints from the local shop and got excited when I got 39 prints out of a 36 film! I would make albums from holidays and events, along with other holiday memorabilia. I changed to using digital cameras about 20 years ago, but now just use my phone. I have a Samsung and the quality and ease of use is amazing.
What do you love about taking pictures?
I love being able to capture unexpected moments to keep as memories. More recently, I have been taking photos to share with my mum, who was in a nursing home for two years, following a severe stroke. We would look at photos together of family, places I had visited, wildlife and her local environment, in particular the mountains, beaches and lakes around Cumbria. She sadly passed away recently.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
I love taking photos of coastlines, beaches, piers mountains and sunsets. This brings me back to my childhood when I would walk along the shore around Harrington and Workington areas with my dad. Even more fun when it was stormy with crashing waves.
What is your favourite subject matter and why?
I adore taking photos of wildlife, in particular squirrels and birds. Watching their interactions, playfulness and routines is fascinating. Our garden is a haven for wildlife with regular visitors who know they are well and truly spoiled.

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?
I enjoy the variety of images posted. The group is also very supportive and encouraging. There is no need to have fancy, expensive equipment to be able to take good photographs. For me, it is all about enjoying easily capturing a moment, with whatever equipment is to hand.
If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
My dream is to travel to Antarctica and stop off at The Falkland Islands. To see penguins in their natural habitat would be a dream come true.
