A RENOWNED astronomer will be bringing his immersive and theatrical show to Warrington this autumn.

Adrian West, also known as VirtualAstro, is an online sensation with more than 225.5k followers on X, formerly Twitter.

He brings the night sky to life in the theatre with The Night Sky Show, which has been touring for two to three years.

This November, the show will make its way to Warrington, taking the audience on a visual journey across the cosmos.

“It’s not your traditional science or astronomy type event,” he said.

“It’s not designed to encourage children to go to school and learn about science, it’s designed for everybody – no matter how old you are, how smart you are or how silly you are.

“It’s for people who go out and look up and just wonder. So many of us look up and don’t have a clue what we’re looking at, and many people look up and want to know more – that’s what we do in the show.”

Adrian was inspired to create the show after seeing his well-known friend do a similar thing, and wanted to have a go himself.

“It’s like a very light-hearted easy to understand Brian Cox show, and I can say that because I’m friends with him,” he said.

“I think he gave me the inspiration to do it because I’ve been to a couple shows in the past and thought I can do that.”

The show uses a giant LED wall to create an entertaining, informative and theatrical experience – helping expand knowledge about space away from a textbook.

“It’s a frolic around the cosmos,” he said.

“We use an awful lot of CGI and visual effects to make it visually impressive. We use Hollywood effects on a massive screen accompanied by an epic sound system with me prancing around it telling people about the universe.

The show is designed for people of all ages, but Adrian hopes that young people find inspiration from the show and use it to make breakthroughs in the future.

“I try now to make it very inclusive for everyone,” he said.

“I’ve got kids myself and things like science get rammed down their throat. I think this way of doing it is the backdoor way – make it fun, make it simple and make it interesting.

“Young people are going to be the new pioneers, but I also think inspiring their families has a big impact on them. I think everybody needs to be inspired or encouraged at the same time.”

Toward the end of next year, Adrian will take a completely new version of the show on tour once again, as a continuation of the current Night Sky Show.

“It’s been a labour of love, it’s been a passion, because there is nothing else like it,” he said.

He hopes that people come to his show and learn, but if they don’t all he asks is that people take a moment to enjoy the night sky once in a while and learn more about it.

“I think if you go out and immerse yourself into it and take it at a more leisurely angle it gets people into it more,” he said.

“It’s like looking at the sea when you’re sat on the beach. The entire experience washes over you, the sky does the same thing.

“I’d love for the next Albert Einstein to be inspired by my show and go forth and invent some sort of space engine, that would be wonderful, but really I just want to create a space for everybody to get a grip on the night sky and enjoy it.”

The Night Sky Show will be making its way to Parr Hall on November 9 at 7.30pm. Tickets start at £25 and can be found here, or call 442345 for more information.
