A PUB is planning to attract new customers through a revamp of its existing beer garden.

Pub company Greene King has submitted proposals to Warrington Borough Council for its Turf and Feather venue in Birchwood.

This is through the erection of a new covered pergola to the side with a new doorway opening from the public house, on Glover Road in Locking Stumps.

Plans also seek approval for the demolition of the front conservatory and creation of a new accessible ramp to the main entrance, as well as new resin surfacing to the front and festoon mounting posts.

Planning documents state: “The Turf and Feather is currently trading as a public house, serving alcoholic beverages and food with an internal dining and drinking space, as well as external seating areas to the front car park and rear grassed area.

“The side patio is not particularly attractive with poor access from the bar area, with customers having to go back out through the main entrance to sit here.

“Food is also delivered from the catering kitchen this way out to diners sitting outside.

“The front picnic benches are currently positioned on the car park tarmac, and feel more like they are in the car park than a dedicated safe customer seating area.

“The proposal aims to revamp the external beer garden and create a new covered external pergola for external seating, which aims to attract new customers to the venue.

“The proposed works are to enhance existing customer facilities and staff operation, in order to help facilitate the ongoing economic viability of this existing and well-established operation.

“The existing public house use of this site comprises a beneficial and appropriate use of this building, and its continued use allows for public access into and around the building.”

The application is currently with the council, with a decision due in due course.
