A Kind-hearted nine-year-old from Woolston decided to swap birthday presents for charity donations as she celebrated with friends and family this year.

Faria Ahmed generously chose to scrap her wish list and help other children across the country less fortunate than her.

The year four Woolston Primary School pupil hosted a donation birthday party to celebrate turning nine and invited all her school friends, asking them to instead make a donation towards the national charity Save the Children UK.

Describing her daughter, Faria’s mum Hina Faizy said: “Faria is and always has been a kind generous person, she loves making new friends.”

“We are super proud of Faria. I suggested to her before her birthday, if she would like to donate instead of presents and her face lit up and thought it was an amazing idea.

“As you know children end up with so many presents, and some don't even end up getting played with, so we thought why not help other children, that don’t get a chance to celebrate their birthday, where so much gets wasted, why not send a little their way.”

In total an impressive £220 was raised by Faria, thanks to donations made by parents as well as her own family.

Parents who attended with their children were kind enough to donate to Save the Children and bring Faria a present as well, Hina explained. “We want thank all the children and the parents for their amazing generosity.”

“Through this post I hope that other parents are able celebrate their own children’s birthdays and also at the same time help other families that are unable to do the same for their kids,” she added.
