A GYM in Warrington has successfully raised £2,000 towards men’s mental health services in the town.

Members of Men’s Hub gym in Latchford participated in the ‘mad mile’ challenge at Victoria Park on August 31 with the hope of raising funds for local mental health charities.

The 21 participants, include gym member Paul Williams completed the gruelling challenge, which is Hyrox training inspired and sees people tackle four laps of 400 metres of different activities.

Previously speaking with the Warrington Guardian, Paul disclosed the huge feat that awaited the gym members.

“On the day, we'll be completing 400 metres, one lap, of burpee broad jumps. As well as 400 metres of walking lunges, 400 metres of bear crawls and 400 metres of running to make a mile around the athletics track,” he said.

Continuing, he explained that the members of the Beatrice Street gym had been participating in Hyrox training over a series of months in preparation for the challenge and added how since opening, the gym had helped all the men who regularly attend both ‘physically and mentally’.

The goal was to raise £1,000 to support mental health charities in Warrington.

However, Men’s Hub members exceeded that goal, raising an impressive £2,000 in total.

Speaking on where the funding will go to, Paul said: “We have decided to donate this to the Warrington Wolves Foundation who have teamed up with two other charities with this in mind.”

He continued: “We had Wolfy, the club’s mascot, down to the Hub for a few pics and we’ll be teaming up for future projects with the foundation to help men’s mental health and fitness locally.”

Paul added that one of the gym’s coaches, Karlton Bates was once signed to the rugby academy and so this was a full circle moment for him and both organisations involved.
