TORUS residents living in a block of flats in Orford were locked out of their homes for a number of days last week.

This is due to fob readers not working and it meant that residents had to buzz each other’s flats to gain access to the building on Sandy Lane.

This was particularly inconvenient due to some people working night shifts which meant they had to wake their neighbours up at 4am.

One resident told the Warrington Guardian how the issue was first reported on Wednesday and that they were told by the housing company that someone would be out within four hours to fix the issue.

But as of early Friday afternoon, the matter was still unresolved.

“Myself and other residents were left mostly in the dark about the details, some neighbours even had their windows being knocked on at 4am just so they could be let in to the block,” a resident said on Friday.

“Torus informed us that we would have to wait for companies to contact other companies just to have the issue looked into.

“We were told it was a high priority two days ago and that we would hear back from them within four hours with a solution whenever anyone contacted them, but this soon became two days.”

The Warrington Guardian approached Torus about the matter and they responded at 4pm on Friday to say the issue has now been resolved and that they apologise for any inconvenience.

Group assets director at Torus, Margaret Goddard, said: “This issue has now been resolved by our external supplier but I apologise to residents for the inconvenience which was caused when upgrading the door entry system as part of our investment switching to digital connectivity.

“We will be monitoring the system closely over the weekend and thank residents for their patience as we fixed the problem.”
