A PRAISING report from Ofsted declared one Warrington primary to be ‘outstanding’.

Evelyn Street Primary Academy and Nursery was handed the highest grading possible by education watchdogs following a recent inspection at the setting.

Inspectors said that Evelyn Street was “an exceptional school” where pupils made the best possible start to their education.

“This stems from the high levels of ambition that the school has for pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND),” the report said.

It continued: “Pupils are taught the importance of resilience. They embody this through the way in which they approach their learning. Many pupils, including those with SEND, achieve extremely well across the curriculum.”

The report also praised the pupils’ behaviour towards each other, showing “genuine car, respect and understanding” for each other.

An inspector added: “Pupils are highly enthusiastic about the broad range of clubs that they have access to. These include robotics, animation and coding. The school ensures that many pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, benefit from these clubs. This supports pupils to develop their talents and interests.”

During the report the school was also commended for its “meticulously set out” curriculum from the early years through to Year 6.

“It identifies the important knowledge that pupils should learn,” they wrote. “The school strives to ensure that the curriculum evolves and responds to the changing needs of the pupils.

“The curriculum is highly ambitious for pupils, including those with SEND. Staff capably adapt access to the curriculum for pupils with SEND, so that they learn well alongside their classmates.”

Evelyn Street was rated outstanding across all areas: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.

This was Evelyn Street’s first Ofsted inspection since 2011, when as Evelyn Street Community Primary School, it was also rated outstanding. The school converted to an academy in 2016 when it became part of Warrington Primary Academy Trust (WPAT).

Now host to 351 pupils, regularly the setting tops local and regional tables for pupils’ SATs scores, which measure reading, writing and mathematics standards at the end of Year 6.

And it has also been rated as one of the top primaries in England by the Sunday Times.

Louise Smith, executive headteacher of Evelyn Street Primary Academy and Nursery and WPAT CEO, said: “The sheer commitment of our staff and colleagues at Evelyn Street Primary Academy and Nursery, as well as the support of our fantastic parents and wider school community, has made this outstanding Ofsted report possible.”
