Ten delicious curry places made Warrington’s shortlist in the latest Best of 2024 category and The Black Gold came out on top.
Biju Joy opened The Black Gold – a south Indian restaurant on Mersey Street in April last year.
Joy, who lives in Warrington and was born in India, said: “The Black Gold is a restaurant specialising in authentic, flavourful curries and traditional dishes from the southern part of India.
“We offer a diverse menu that includes both classic favourites and unique creations, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
“We wanted to open a restaurant that combined one of our partner’s intangible passion for cooking with our enthusiastic cravings to serve and share with people the unique flavour of the southern India.
“We’ve always wanted to share the rich flavours and diverse traditions of curry and our south Indian cuisine.
“Opening a restaurant allowed us to bring these culinary experiences to life of our guests. “Our dedication to authenticity and quality sets us apart from our competitors.
“We use traditional recipes and spices, and our commitment to creating a memorable dining experience is reflected in every dish we serve.
“We also try our very best to keep the dishes as authentic as possible at the same time give it our own little twist to make it unique.”
What do customers think about The Black Gold? Why did they want the restaurant to win our latest Best of 2024 award?
With authentic flavours of Kerala, a southern state of India, trained chefs have honed their skills cooking traditional dishes ready to take you on a culinary journey.
They use fragrant spices and fresh ingredients with no compromising on quality.
One nomination said: “Not what people are used to but great and worth a try.”
The award-winning curries include the signature kozhikodan lamb masala, which is sautéed with black pepper infused with a rich and aromatic blend of spices with tender meat.
The beef ularthiyathu is popular – it is enriched with slow roasting tender chunks of beef in authentic spices, coconut slices and curry leaves.
The vegetarian paneer matter masala, which features a medley of cottage cheese and peas and other favourites include the different varieties of dosas depending on the fillings and spreads, prawn mango curry and the fish moilee.
Joy said: “Customers appreciate the unique and flavourful curries we offer, the welcoming atmosphere and our attentive service.
“Many choose us for the consistency and quality that make every visit enjoyable.
“The best thing about our job is seeing our customers’ enjoyment and satisfaction as they experience our food.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to know that our passion for cooking brings happiness to others.”
When Joy and the team at The Black Gold heard they’d made the final shortlist for this year’s Best for Curry they were thrilled.
Joy said: “We were thrilled and honoured to be recognised among the best in the industry.
“When we were told that we’d won, it was fantastic.
“It was a wonderful validation of our hard work and dedication.
“I would like to thank all our customers and clients for their votes and support.
“Your encouragement means a lot to us.”
