THE health and wellbeing board looks set to ‘support the intention’ for Warrington to be included in an initiative which aims to end HIV transmission by 2030.
A report on the issue will come before the board at its Town Hall meeting on Thursday.
According to the report, the Fast-Track Cities initiative is a global partnership between cities and municipalities around the world and four core partners – the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, and the City of Paris.
It adds: “Recognizing the critical role that cities play in the HIV response, mayors from 26 cities and the key global partners met in Paris in 2014 to launch the Paris Declaration on Fast-Track Cities Ending the AIDS Epidemic (the Paris Declaration).
“Since then, more than 400 cities and municipalities in approximately 90 countries have joined the global network and endorsed the Paris Declaration.
“Mayors and other city/municipal officials designate their cities as Fast-Track Cities by signing the Paris Declaration on Fast-Track Cities, which outlines a set of commitments to achieve the initiative’s objectives.”
The board is recommended to acknowledge the report and ‘support the intention’ for Warrington to be included in the Cheshire and Merseyside region’s Fast-Track Cities coordinated activities, working towards ending HIV transmission by 2030.
