CRIME reports in Warrington have risen over the past month, according to the latest police data.

This is according to new figures released which covers July 2024 – the most recent period for which data published by the Home Office is available.

The town saw an overall rise in reported incidents of crime, with monthly data also including the number of crimes reported on each street in the town.

As per the figures released on police.uk – which is run by the Home Office – 1,512 crimes were reported across the town in July.

There is a discrepancy with the figures due to the fact that the police log ‘reported crimes’, which means that some crimes that went unreported will not be in the figures.

Equally, some crimes may have been reported more than once.

The figures show the number of reported crimes in July was up from the 1,433 reported in June, and also up from the 1,314 reported in July 2023.

Across Warrington, the streets with the most crimes reported in July were:

  • Bridge Foot – 18
  • Hollins Lane – 17
  • Meadow Lane – 12
  • Woburn Road – 10
  • Hamnett Court – 10
  • Norris Street – 9
  • Patten Lane – 9
  • Rowland Close – 9
  • Cronulla Drive – 9

In terms of crimes reported from public areas, July’s figures were as follows:

  • Parking area – 55
  • Supermarket – 49
  • Shopping area – 45
  • Petrol station – 27
  • Nightclub – 23
  • Hospital – 16
  • Prison – 10
  • Police station – 10
  • Sports or recreation area – 5
  • Park or open space – 4
  • Further or higher educational building – 3

While some categories of crime rose in July compared to the previous month, others fell.

Violent and sexual offences continue to be the most prevalent type of crime in Warrington with 679 reports in July – up from 634 in June.

This is followed by anti-social behaviour – down from 223 to 180 – then public disorder, criminal damage and arson, and ‘other theft’.

Overall, most crime types experienced rises in reports, namely: burglary, criminal damage and arson, drugs, other crime, other theft, public disorder, robbery, vehicle crime, and violent and sexual offences.

Reports of anti-social behaviour, bicycle theft, possession of weapons and shoplifting all experienced falls over the past month however.

In terms of the outcomes of these reports, 720 remain under investigation, according to the data, while 71 are awaiting action or a court outcome.

However, 541 resulted in no prosecution, for reasons such as no suspect being identified, being unable to prosecute a suspect and further action not being in the public interest.
