A SUSPECT has been named by a court after being charged in connection with a reported stabbing in the town centre.

Officers from Cheshire Police were called to the area of Horsemarket Street and Hill Street in Warrington at 7.15pm on Thursday.

It was reported that a man suffered a stab wound to his back following an ‘interaction’.

A suspect has since been charged with possessing a knife in public and wounding, as well as other offences.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 7.15pm on Thursday, September 5, police were called to reports of an assault in Warrington town centre.

“Two men reported that they had been assaulted in the Hill Street area following an interaction between a group.

“During the incident, one of the men suffered a minor stab wound to his back.

“Officers attended and a 21-year-old man was quickly located and arrested.”

Quang Nguyem, of Capesthorne Road in Orford, has since been charged in connection with the incident.

The 21-year-old is charged with unlawful wounding, possessing a knife in a public place, threatening a person with a blade in a public place and possession of cannabis.

All of the allegations are dated Thursday, September 5, according to court documents, with two charges giving Horsemarket Street as the location.

Moreover, the particulars of the weapon allegations involve a knife.

He made a first appearance in relation to the charges before Chester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

The outcome of the hearing has not yet been published by the courts.
