A NEW video game is set to be released worldwide this Friday – and it’s been completely developed in Warrington
Based in Centre Park, 10:10 Games is a video game development company that started in 2021.
Despite starting with just three people, the company has gone on to see incredible expansion, with 92 members of staff.
“We were a very small office for the first 12 months, then we ran out of space,” said Arthur Parsons, who co-founded the company.
“We took over half of the top floor, and now we’re nearly running out of space again.”
This week, the studio will release its first game, Funko Fusion, on PC and gaming consoles.
The action-adventure game will be single player and feature online co-op, exploring NBCUniversal’s extensive catalogue of beloved worlds and Funko Pop figures.
“It’s a celebration of fandom,” said Arthur.
“The game features over 20 film and TV franchises, everything from Hot Fuzz, Back to the Future and Umbrella Academy.
“It’s effectively a game that’s been built to be both authentic to its IP, but it’s also a completely whimsical adventure.
“There’s a lot of humour, there’s a lot of fun and the whole idea is that we’ve built a game that should appeal to a really broad audience of people who just want fun in a video game.
“There’s huge amounts of hidden secrets and easter eggs and little nods to the franchises. It’s definitely a game that’s aimed at a slightly older audience.”
Funko Fusion has been worked on by the team, 36 members of which are in their first role in the industry after being taken on by the studio.
“It feels great because we’ve now got an incredible team of people, and for a lot of them it’s their first jobs in the industry,” said Arthur.
“So, to see their journey is really invigorating because they’ve come out of college or university, and we’ve given them an opportunity.
“You always get excited when a game’s going to come out, but it’s almost like it’s my first ever game again because of their excitement.”
The studio offers internships and work experience regularly to help young game designers in Warrington take their first steps in the industry.
“Our youngest team member joined us as an intern when he was 18, and instead of going to uni I offered him a full-time job,” said Arthur.
“He’s going to have a game out before his friends have graduated university and he’s a local lad who came from Priestley College.
“We can’t hire everyone, but if we can help one or two get experience and strengthen their skillset, that will stand them in better stead when going to uni or finding employment.
“We’re making a game here but we’re also trying to do everything we can to help students in Warrington, because there isn’t enough of a focus on internships in our industry.”
Funko Fusion will be released worldwide on Friday on a variety of devices, both physically and digitally.
