AN Indian restaurant in Culcheth is celebrating its second anniversary and improved hygiene rating, after shocking 1-star inspection in May.

Foyzun Nur, who is 38, is the director of Culcheth Indian Restaurant, Indi Ayan, on Common Lane.

The restaurant, which is named after Foyzun’s son Ayan, opened in 2022 and was a huge success.

Unfortunately, after an inspection by the Food Standards Agency in May, the restaurant was hit with a 1-star rating.

The ratings are issues by the Food Standards Agency and are publicly available online.

Ratings range from five, very good, to zero, requires urgent improvement.

The Food Standards Agency does not disclose the full reasonings behind the rating but does reveal general areas requiring improvement.

India Ayan was noted to need improvement in all three areas, including cleanliness, management of food safety and hygienic food handling.

Foyzun was busy supporting Ayan, who has autism, at the time of the visit and believes that the rating may have been lowered due to new staff and a language barrier.

“It was quite embarrassing to get such a low rating, as I spent so much time and money,” he said.

“I was busy with Ayan for two weeks, and during that time the health officer visited my restaurant.

“The kitchen was a bit messy, and the staff were busy cleaning the freezer and the health book was not updated.”

However, since the rating, Foyzun has been dedicated to improving it and has been taking steps to get the restaurant back on track.

“After getting the report I rectified the issues, changed the staff and appointed new staff with training courses,” he said.

“I solved everything as per the report, and every Sunday we, myself along with the staff, deep clean the restaurant.”

Last Friday, the restaurant was visited by inspectors once again and, despite the fact the visit was unexpected, Indi Ayan passed with flying colours.

“The inspector came at 8.45pm, which is when the restaurant is usually very busy,” said Foyzun.

“She was pleased to see that everything was clean and tidy during this busy time and gave us five stars.

“My restaurant has had five stars before, and we are happy to get five stars again. Our customers have always trusted us to serve quality, clean and healthy food.”

To celebrate the improved rating, and the restaurants second anniversary, Indi Ayan will be offering a range of deals for customers at the end of the month.

On September 23, 25 and 26, customers can enjoy their meals at half price, with 50 per cent off their food bill.

Then, on September 30 and October 2 and 3, all takeaway collection orders will be 40 per cent off.
