A RETIRED police officer who has lost more than six stone is now looking to inspire others.

Gary Cannell ‘piled the weight on’ following health complications and through drinking during lockdown.

During Covid, Gary’s son Paul, who is a Slimming World consultant, started to run virtual groups.

So Gary, 62, joined after being inspired by Paul’s own results, and he has since lost six stone and four pounds.

The Widnes resident has gone from a size 48-inch waist to a size 34-inch waist.

He says this is down to food optimising with unlimited syn-free food.

Talking about why he decided to join Paul’s group, Gary said: “I had done Slimming World before, and it was very successful and I could also see the results my son was getting.

“It was just too difficult to do it on my own, you have got to join a support network.”

Following his weight loss, Gary feels ‘fantastic and confident’ and he is now much more active with his grandchildren.

He now also goes to the gym four or five times a week.

Back in November, Gary decided to become a Slimming World consultant with the desire of helping others.

He now runs three groups, two in Widnes and one in Grappenhall.

“I am just doing this to help people,” he said.

“When you help people get to their target weight it is such a fantastic feeling.

“I like to think that I can inspire people to help them to get to where they want to be.

"I love being a Slimming World consultant, there is no better feeling in the world than helping people."

Talking about the three group sessions he runs a week, Gary added: “Make that step and come to the group.

“There are no strangers in the group, just friends you haven’t met yet.

“You will always get a warm and friendly welcome, there is no judgement, it doesn’t matter about where you start, it is about where you end up.”
